For those of us who arrive on time to events, we can’t help but notice the manner in which others, who don’t, arrive and take their seat. In no particular order - here are but a few of the late arriving archetypes:
SETS UP HOUSE
This person comes in late and casually proceeds to arrange clothing, items in purse, etc. all the while standing up in front of others unaware, or unconcerned, of the distraction they are causing.
LET ME INTRODUCE MYSELF
This is the person who, as they find their seat, makes conversation with everyone around - often while setting up house (see Sets Up House).
POLITE and AWARE
This person, knowing the event has already begun and that others are engaged, quietly and with the least amount of distraction, waits for a break, sits down, and is the least disruptive as can be. Any adjustments to clothing etc. will be made incrementally between focus times.
THE RHINO
This heavy stepper bumps into everyone on their way to their seat, often grunting and making excessive noise.
NOW THAT I AM HERE, I GOTTA GO
Sets up house, introduces themselves, and then leaves to go to the bar, restroom, etc. often repeating the entire process.
REPORTS TO THE OFFICE
This one finds their seat and immediately starts catching up with office work - phoning friend after friend to inform them of their whereabouts and of the concert they aren’t paying any attention to.
Are you one of these six archetypes?
Have I missed any?
